THE HORROR AT FORT HOOD
NPR November 6, 2009
Often when there is a mass shooting, people who knew the gunman find themselves wondering what warning signs they might have missed. So it is in the case of Maj. Nidal Hasan, a 12-year veteran in the U.S. Army, a native-born American, a trained and practicing psychiatrist — and the man authorities say opened fire on fellow soldiers at Fort Hood.
The anatomy of the criminal mind is never a mystery. Unfortunately, sociopaths are a part of every community, belong to every faith and sprout in every profession. But what turns a sociopath into an uncontrollable menace? Legitimacy, especially those violent political views which terrorists use as an excuse to kill innocents all over the world. Of course, political terrorisms are especially despicable , whether they are perpetrated at Fort Hood or elsewhere, when criminals hide behind the mask of religion and thus betray its promise.
If the anatomy of violent crime is so transparent, then what can we do to prevent it? The answer itself is also a no-brainer. We need to build the Self and empower it to use religion's guidance to help ourselves and others; to reach out with love and forgiviness; to heal and to help. What are you waiting for? Why are your waiting? Why wait for bloodshed to continue on forever? Why not start Self-building today? Will you join me in making this world better for everyone?
